During both the summer and the winter months, the Montafon region boasts countless breathtaking walking tours.
On your own or with an experienced guide, you can explore the ruggedly romantic, snow-covered winter landscape. Covering a distance of over 290 kilometres, the network of paths and trails can be hiked on foot or with snowshoes. There are countless blissfully idyllic spots to be discovered. “Armed” with burning torches, many of the trails can be explored at night too. When the sun goes down the wildlife comes to life and attentive observers might catch a glimpse of a shy forest inhabitant. Alpine Sports
Powdersnow-covered slopes
The supreme winter sport discipline, namely alpine skiing, is highly revered in the Silvretta Montafon region.
With 79 cable-cars and ski lifts and 292 km marked runs, the ski area is truly enormous – too vast to be explored during just one ski holiday. You can access the “piste paradise” just a stone’s throw from Appart Gastauer. And snowboarders get their money’s worth here too. The snowboard park is a Mecca for daredevil ski & board acrobats boasting 13 jibs, 8 jumps and a 120 metre-long halfpipe. Despite the vastness of the developed ski area, the Montafon region is still, for the most part, virtually untouched and those who make the effort to ascend the mountainsides with skins are rewarded with breathtaking views and virgin powder-snow slopes. Our local ski guides bring you safely there and back. Even more variety is offered by the Montafon’s region’s deep snow and freeride areas, such as the 14 Black Scorpions routes.

Cross Country Skiing
Explore the valleys
The 100 kilometre-long cross-country ski trails through the idyllic Montafon valley can be accessed just a stone’s throw from Appart Gastauer.
The trails take you past breathtaking rock formations – the view of the towering limestone rocks is particularly stunning – through tranquil forests and past picturesque mountain villages. Full cross-country skiing gear can be rented from “Sport Harry” opposite Appart Gastauer where our guests receive a 10% discount on all products and services.
Tobogganing
Rediscover an age-old sport
The ultimate family sport, namely tobogganing, is currently enjoying increasing popularity among young and young-at-heart couples.
Romantics and love birds start their toboggan tour after the sun has set and make their way up through the forest to the mountain hut either on foot or using the lift. After a cosy, convivial stop in the hut, enjoy a leisurely or a high-speed descent down the well-lit run to the valley. Six runs, varying from three to seven kilometres in length, offer a treat for all tobogganing enthusiasts – two are open at night too. The Appart Gastauer team are happy to help you plan your ideal toboggan tour.

Fancy trying something new?
Almost every year creative minds come up with new ways of sliding down the pistes or across snow-covered trails.
One board or two skis, short or long, with seat, “sail” or on a “Zipflbob” sled, there are countless ways to enjoy a new experience. Simply pay a visit to “Sport Harry” beside Appart Gastauer and there you can find out what’s currently all the rage. If you want to get higher than the mountains, then a paraglider is the best option. With the right equipment taking to the skies is a truly heavenly experience.
